Psychiatric Medication
Modern medicine is a gift, including the variety of psychiatric medications we have access to. As an LMFT and LPC, I do not prescribe medication or help with medication management. Instead I focus on helping clients become more intentional and conscious of their relationship with medication, and to reflect on questions like, “What are you asking the medication to do for you? Are you asking it to only make you feel better, or are you seeking support from medication while you do the difficult work of growth and healing?”
It is completely normal to want to feel good, but as I discuss at length on YouTube, we must be careful that we do not pursue good feelings at the expense of actually getting healthy. All psychiatric medications have a cost to our body and mind—no medication is risk-free or without side effects. The right medication at the right time can be deeply helpful, but useful medication in the wrong moment and/or the wrong dosage for that moment, can potentially get in the way of growth, and thus inadvertently prevent us from living a fuller life.
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my colleague Andrew Jecklin, owner of Stillpoint Integrative Psychiatry and Wellness, is able to help you with any prescription or medication management needs. He is wonderfully holistic and integrative, taking the entire person into account as he skillfully guides you in making informed-choices about your health and the potential impact of various medication options.
